Pat Whaley – September 2018
Just to let you know that i am writing to thank you and all your excellent staff for the care and commitment shown to my brother-in-law Ian Douglas Whaley.
It was always a pleasure to visit him, and the family appreciated very much the consideration given to him especially during his final days.
Very many thanks
John, Carol & Peter Brandon – August 2018
Just a note to say a big thankyou to you all for looking after our mum Annie Brandon over the last few years.
When we realised that she needed to move into residential care it was a very worrying time for us. We looked around the area and when we visited The Withins we knew straight away that it was the one for her.
The atmosphere was one of care and activity. The staff busy looking after the residents whilst still taking time to sit and talk to them. There was good “banter” between the staff and residents which my mum loved. It was such a relief to see her well looked after and living in a caring environment.
As her physical and mental health deteriorated, she must have been quite a challenge to care for and you guys did a great job, never forgetting that the “real” Annie was still in there somewhere.
We always felt sad when we went to visit her, sad that she had to be there and the state of her health, but when we came away we felt happy that she was comfortable.
So thanks again for the work you did for us and our mum. She will be missed by all who new her.

My mother-in-law has been a resident at The Withins for two and a half years. Having experienced a series of falls and being in a general state of declining health we were grateful as a family that she was accepted here at The Withins. From then her health has improved and she has recently celebrated her 98th birthday. The support and care she has received from ALL the staff has been marvellous. It is often hard to ‘let’ a loved one go into a care home but we believe that The Withins has proved to be an excellent place for her and therefore afforded us peace of mind. The activities too are brilliant and we believe they help not only to socialise but to keep active. As a family we have experienced a challenging year and the support of Sam and his team during this time has been outstanding. We wish to thank you all. Thank you.

I want to thank you all for the care given to my dad, Philip Turner. I am writing on behalf of all my brothers and sisters.
When my dad first went into The Withins and he was physically stronger, he took part in many of the activities provided, with mum by his side. I particularly remember the very ornate dress ring he loved to wear, which he won at bingo. He was really proud of his win. He also enjoyed the musical activities. One of our final and lasting images was dad presenting roses and a balloon to mum at the Valentines Party. My daughter Alice photographed the moment. Thank you for providing these happy memories.
Dad appeared very happy and contented. People were very kind to him. He loved the attention he got, particularly from the ladies. I caught him blowing kisses on a number of occasions.
I want to thank you all for the understanding you gave my mum. It would have been their 70th Wedding Anniversary in july this year. Mums war time nursing skills were put to good use when she needed to care for dad in his last years. She found it very difficult to accept that she couldn’t be his full time carer, when he needed to go into The Withins. The fact that mum could visit at anytime and was offered meals was very helpful. She lived in hope that his health would improve and that he would be able to return home. The understanding you showed them both, as a couple, was appreciated by us all.
From the five of us and the many visiting grandchildren and friends, we want to thank you for always being made welcome. My dad was much loved by us all and we do miss him.
Judith & Family – 11th December 2017
It was with a heavy heart, 9 years ago, that i handed the care of dear mum into the hands of The Withins. This was expected to be a short stay, but with the love and care of the wonderful people at the care home, mums health steadily returned. That care and support was also extended to myself.
I will never forget each and everyone of you, from the kitchen staff (I had many a meals with mum) the cleaners, laundry staff, maintenance men and management.
The Guys and Girls, who bathed, dressed and attended to her every needs, with tenderness and patience, meant that she never slipped back into the Psychosis from which she had suffered for many years.
I miss mum terribly and now remember only the good times, of which there were many. Shortly i will be moving 200 miles away to be with my family, but i will leave a piece of my heart with The Withins.
I can never thank you all enough for what you’ve done for me and mine.

To all the staff at The Withins,
We are writing to express our sincere thanks for the way you cared for EDNA in her final hours. We would also like to thank you all for the hospitality shown to us on Thursday 26th, It made a very difficult day that much easier.
Most of all we would like to thank all the staff for the care and attention that you have given Edna over the past four and a half years. We really appreciate it and are sure that Edna did to. She certainly became more settled in herself as time went on and continued for the remainder of her stay.
Once again thank you all for what you did for Edna xx

‘To Sam, Karena and all the fantastic staff from the top to the bottom. A big thank you for all the love, care and attention given to our Mum in her final days.
You allowed her to die in peace and dignity with her family at her side. Not forgetting the endless refreshments and food given to us both day and night and the endless care and support given to us which kept us going.
We would like to thank you for the book of memories you made us and the beautiful flowers you gave us.
We as a family feel blessed to have been part of The Withins for the past six years both through the happy and the sad times. Thank you to you all!’
Gill Green – 29th March 2016
‘As a nurse for over 30 years I can attest that the care provided by this home is absolutely the gold standard. During the years my Grandmother enjoyed at the Withins she was treated with love and respect by all the staff always. Their approach to providing a quality of life with many, many activities, trips and entertainment evenings I am sure brought extra years to my Grandma. Our family feels blessed to have found such a wonderful home for her, thank you to all the amazing staff at the Withins, we are grateful every day for all you did’.
Maurice and Marie King – 5th March 2016
‘I would like to take this opportunity to write a few words following the sad passing of my mother-in-law, Ada Woodcock, on Wednesday 2nd March 2016.
My wife and I both feel that the level of care she received at The Withins couldn’t have been bettered and the attention and refreshments that were offered us, whilst sitting with her in her final days, helped us get through a very difficult time.
All the staff without exception, that we came into contact with, showed her a level of care, dignity and respect that was truly amazing.
It takes a very special type of person to care for old people and, in our eyes, they are all very special to us and words can’t thank them all enough.
Thank you all so much from the bottom of our hearts.

‘When the time came for mum to go into a care home, after visiting numerous Homes, The Withins was recommended to me from a relative. The minute I walked in I knew it was right for mum “Home from Home” ! No appointment was needed, my partner and I just called on spec.
The staff were all friendly and welcoming, you instantly saw the excellent care provided to the Residents, all with different needs being met individually.
The decor was in good modern condition and the rooms were spacious. We were allowed to furnish mums room to our own taste and bring as much of mums belongings so that she felt familiar in her new surroundings.
Mum has lived at The Withins for nearly a year now and has settled in very well. There are always different events , trips out, fairs etc being organised as well as dancing, bingo and dominoes. Mum loves to paint and this has been encouraged as one of her activities.
Sam, with the support of his dedicated Team of Carers delivers an excellent and professional Service for which I personally can’t thank them enough. I know mum is now safe, well cared for and happy, a big thank you to all!’

‘Today we celebrated our Mum’s 100th Birthday at The Withins Residential Home and what a celebration it was thanks to Sam, Karena and the superb staff.
It is a day that we thought we would never have seen as five years ago Mum was very poorly and low. The home-care service she was receiving wasn’t good enough and the decision was made that she needed 24hr care. We had the daunting task of finding a care home which was not easy. We knew what we wanted for our Mum and we were finding it hard to find it.
Out of the blue our sister happened to come across The Withins Residential Home. She called in and ‘bingo’ we found what we were looking for.
Mum had two weeks respite in The Withins and she thought she was in a five star hotel. Eventually she became a full time resident and within two weeks she was joining in the activities. We have had five years of good memories to last us a lifetime thanks to the team at The Withins Residential Home.
We were looking for a home from home and a family atmosphere and we got it. If we ever had a problem or we were unhappy about anything we talked to Sam and Karena and it was sorted – no ifs no buts about it.
We bless the day our sister knocked on the door of The Withins and we as a family have enjoyed this very special occasion with our Mum.
A big thank you to The Withins and it’s fantastic team!’

‘When the time came for my husband to go into Residential care, a friend recommended The Withins where her husband had lived happily for a while. I went along with my family to have a look at The Withins. No need to make an appointment which proved to me that what you see is what you get, any time you visit and the excellent standard of care is maintained all the times.
When we entered the Home the first impression was that it was a spacious, light and airy, pleasant smelling, cheerful happy place.
The Manager Sam and his staff were welcoming and happy to show us around.
All the residents we met were happy and chatted to us.
Lots of activities are organised and there are also quiet lounges if preferred,
My husband is very settled there now and he is happy and contented.
I know that he is being well cared for and that he trusts the carers who look after him. They always have time to sit and chat with him.
Entrusting him into the care of The Withins was one of the best decisions I have made. My husband is happy which makes me and my family happy too’.

‘My beloved Mother Jean Chambers has recently moved into your wonderful residential home. I would like to compliment all the wonderful staff for the fantastic care and the love shown to my mum Jean. The team are wonderful and should be proud of themselves. My Brother Tony and I cannot thank you enough’.

‘Mum has lived at The Withins for nearly two years. The personal care, varied activities and good food provided by a professional, dedicated and caring staff in a clean and very friendly environment has been excellent. We have been very impressed by the feedback given to us if Mum has any problems, difficulties or illness and we are always kept up to date with her overall progress. We would highly recommend The Withins Residential Home’
‘The 12th November 2014 is a special day for me and my family. Why? Because that was the day we were offered a room at The Withins Residential Home. Such a wonderful place for my wonderful husband Sidney of 57 years. I didn’t think we’d ever find anywhere good enough for me to feel that I could leave him but The Withins ticked all boxes. A modern, purpose built home. Warm – friendly – good food – good entertainment – excellent care’
‘My mother has been a resident at The Withins for over two years and I can honestly say that she is happier now than she has been for many years due to the friendliness, help and attention from all the staff. She enjoys the company of fellow residents and the stimulation of the many activities as well as the security of knowing that someone is always there is she needs help or attention.
I am impressed with the cleanliness of the establishment, the quality of the meals and the kindness of the staff who are motivated to do a thoroughly professional job’
‘It was with a heavy heart that I rang the intercom of The Withins, which was the fourth care home on my list. I had been told that for health and safety reasons, I could no longer care for my mum : I felt that I had failed her.
My first impressions were of the cleanliness and immaculate décor, but my spirits began to rise as Sam the manager showed me round. He stopped and chatted to each resident we met, addressing them by name and with personal knowledge of their circumstances. I also noticed how well cared for the residents looked – hair and clothes etc…
Medical opinion was that mum ‘wouldn’t be with us long’. That was seven years ago. So a big thank-you to the army of carers and the excellent care they provide. There is a small turnover of staff, so I have made many friends.
In the early days, when I visited daily because of mum’s state of health, I was often asked if I would like to dine with her. So I can vouch for the quality of food. Also, between meals there seems to be a steady stream of drinks, biscuits and fruit.
Bev, who organises the entertainment finds any excuse for a themed party. So decorations, party hats (made by the residents) and live music all come out.
On reflection, I wish I had given the care of mum over to The Withins earlier. I had struggled alone, for eight years with her psychosis and paranoia, had given up work and was on anti-depressants. Mum, now aged ninenty-five years sleeps most of the time. Thus, I can now visit my family who all live in Bath, for a fortnight, with the confidence that she is in safe hands.
Nobody wants to see a loved one taken away from them and put into care, but if there’s no option, I am of the opinion, that they would get no better care than The Withins family’
‘My family were devastated when we found that Mum needed to go into a home, my sister and I went to look at quite a few homes, but when we stepped into The Withins something told us this was right. And right it was! Mum has not looked so good for a long time. She went through massive a trauma where she had broken bones. She is so well cared for, like a five-star hotel to Mum.
The Manager Sam is always around making sure things run smooth and the staff are angels, we couldn’t have anything better. Mum is always clean and the excellent chefs feed her well. The entertainment team which is ran by Bev is fantastic and they do activities every day.
One of the main things is that all the staff make our family feel very welcome every time we visit, its starting to feel like my second home.
Thank you so much to all the staff at The Withins’
‘I find The Withins Care Home a very bright and friendly place. It is very clean and all the residents look fresh and happy.
Activities are ongoing every day keeping those who wish to join in occupied.
The Withins is the only care home I am happy for my mother to be in as the care is extremely good’
‘My Dad was a Withins resident for only six months before he died recently aged 97. During that time, the staff could not have been more caring and considerate of him and his needs. They helped him keep his dignity. He was always smartly dressed and well cared for, with regular attention to hair, nails and feet! He loved playing dominoes and enjoyed the weekly singing, though he frequently broke into song at other times. It helped me to know that he was safe and happy. The team had made his room look like a real home from home and he once remarked it reminded him of the family home where he grew up as a boy.
He had a very happy birthday last October with a cake, present and birthday song from the staff and residents. This is a regular feature for every resident’s birthday! Everyone enjoys it along with the other numerous activities and celebrations through the year.
On days when my Dad was not well, the doctor’s visits were smoothly and efficiently arranged and I was always kept informed. I appreciated this.
I have no hesitation in recommending the Withins Residential Home’
‘The first thing I noticed about The Withins was the friendly and helpful staff. The residents and visitors enjoy an array of different activities including bingo, dominoes, painting, themed parties and dancing. A big thanks to all at The Withins’.
